Every great leader must have a purpose. Without one, there is nothing to feed the desire to succeed. Some people are driven by financial rewards or recognition, while others find that they are fulfilled by the fact that others can succeed with their support and guidance. It doesn’t matter what the purpose is, what matters is that it’s there, and that it’s strong and it’s clear.
In addition to having a purpose, leaders should also be visionaries. It is important that there is a clearly defined mission statement that expresses what is to be achieved. This involves more than setting a specific milestone or immediate goal. This should be a powerful declaration that will serve as the driving force for everything that follows.
Once the mission statement is in place, it is time to create a plan of action. Leaders should be able to analyze every aspect of their business, and develop strategies that are designed to achieve specific milestones over a reasonable amount of time. They must also be resourceful, and be capable of identifying the weaknesses within their organization and finding alternative solutions to improve and maintain a consistent growth pattern.
